The key is appealing to our other than conscious minds and employ the power of emotions to sell. Researchers have determined that our conscious minds can only hold an average of seven bits of information at a time. Considering how many things we could be thinking about, that’s quite an insignificant number. There are so many things to think about. . .what we see, what we hear, what we feel, what we need to remember, what we are trying to forget. . . All of these things take up space somewhere. . . but we’re only able to consciously think about seven of them at a time. So while we’re thinking of our seven little things, we’ve got a gigantic internal hard drive to hold the things we need to be able to access when necessary. Our other-than-conscious holds on to all of the information we are not currently using, and absorbs the information that is occurring around us that we couldn’t possibly consciously perceive. I’m a huge fan of the unconscious. Logic and rationality are hugely overrated in my book. Not that there’s no use for them, but the emphasis has overshadowed the power of our unconscious. So how can we take another person’s consciousness and side step it to access the real boss of their unconscious? Second, keep in mind what the purpose of the class is. A computer class should obviously be situated differently than an art class, etc. As for the seven seating arrangements, the first is traditional rows. This arrangement is still used in many situations as it gives instructors the opportunity to walk around easily and check on student progress, but in most cases, it visually impairs the students. Second, clusters. These arrangement works well for small groups, but like tables in a banquet hall, there will always be the need for one or more students to have to turn completely in his/her chair to follow an instructor or listen to a speaker. Many small businesses struggle with cash flow in the early years. One way to improve your cash flow is by factoring your debts. When you factor your debts the factoring company gives you up to 85% of any outstanding invoices straight away. They also take the burden of collecting your debts away from you. For this service they charge around anywhere between one and three percent of the invoice value. I used factoring in the late nineties when I was struggling to manage the growth of my packaging business. Some of my biggest customers were taking a long time to pay their invoices and as their business increased the only way I could raise money to keep supplying them was through factoring. Initially my fee was 2% but after one year the factoring company reduced it to 1.5%. This fee not only paid for the collection of the debt but it also insured it so that if any of my customers went bust I would lose a maximum of five hundred dollars. The way this works is that before you supply any new customer you submit their details to the factoring company and in return they give you the amount of credit you can offer. All debt supplied up to that figure is insured and anything above it is not. I rarely supplied any customers over their credit limit. I factored my debts for approximately 5 years. The factoring company only actually made profits from me for 3 of those five years. The other two years they ended up having to pay me more for the insurance payouts than I actually paid them in their fees! The only problem I had was when they were slightly too strict trying to collect my outstanding invoices! I almost lost a customer but after a little bit of delicate negotiation we managed to save the day. Factoring has a got a really bad name in the industry but I do not understand why. It’s a great way to boost your cash flow if suddenly you get more orders than you can handle or your business starts to grow fast. It really only works well when the value of each invoice is high. If your average invoice value is less than a couple of hundred dollars you will struggle to find a factoring company that will accept your debt. The main reason for this is that they take a small percentage of each invoice and at this level their percentage works out to such a small figure that it is no longer viable for them to make money from you. As usual with all these types of articles the standard rules apply. Do not base your decision to factor your debts based on this article and always seek expert advice from your accountant first before entering into a factoring agreement.

How can we use this strategy to persuade affluent clients? After all, they seemingly have no needs? Wrong. Everybody needs something. Determining what that something is and if you’re able to fulfill it is the process of criteria elicitation. If you stop to think about what you are consciously thinking about right now it might be the words that you’re reading. You’re probably not thinking about peeling a banana, or you weren’t until you just read ‘peeling a banana’. If your doctor told you to eat a banana every day for potassium, you might think about bananas more than the average person, certainly less than a banana farmer, but more than average. There’s no possible reason for us to be thinking about bananas all day and dreaming about them all night. But when necessity, such as your doctor’s advice, intervenes, then bananas become more of a common thought for us. Consciousness is regulated by the part of the brain called the reticular activating system. This is considered to be central to motivation and arousal. It’s involved in the central nervous system’s activities and it helps us to pay attention to the most important things and store those we can reasonably disregard for a time. Our conscious minds can hold seven (plus or minus two) bits of information at a time. the rest is stored in our other-than-conscious minds for retrieval when needed. Think about the last time you took a long road trip. Maybe you had on the radio, you were singing along to an old song (whose lyrics you still remember from decades ago, but hadn’t thought about consciously in years, maybe), and you’re maybe thinking about where you’re going, who you’re going to see when you get there. You probably aren’t thinking of having to go to the bathroom. You won’t think about that until you need to. And maybe you aren’t thinking about water or gas or food, unless you need them. It becomes a different story when you all of the sudden need one of them. Gas becomes so very important if you’re on Empty. Water becomes important if you’re dehydrated and your A/C isn’t working. When food becomes a need, all of the sudden you start seeing fast food signs telling you what’s available to eat, when before you may not have been paying more than a slight passing attention to them. Where were those thoughts before? They were stored in our other than conscious until we had use for them, until they became relevant. And once we have our needs fulfilled, then they can be stored away again until they again become relevant. Your prospect’s values and criteria are their needs. By eliciting their criteria, we can illuminate their needs for them, especially in relation to our products or services. By speaking to this higher level (or deeper level) we are fine tuning their reticular activating system to our advantage. And as we work with full integrity, this turns out to be to their advantage as well. Eliciting criteria is mandatory in pointing us in the direction of satisfying our prospect’s needs. The persuasion comes quite naturally after that.

The glowing economic reports are blowing away the middle class. Amid rough retail reports you can still find some gems. Tiffany the luxury jeweler profit rose as sales went up 20% to $ 662.6 million. Other lower end retailer’s sales fell across the board. The struggling middle class are feeling the pinch. The uncertain housing market is causing a lot of the financial woes. A snapshot of the landscape, with the entire home for sale signs would give you a picture of the slowdown. The middle class is surely being kicked while down. The alluring home market has fallen flat for the struggling middle class. The number of Americans without health insurance has risen by 2.2 million. There are a total of 47 million people without this insurance. The poor are still poor and the middle class is struggling to stay middle class. The claim is other sections of the economy are healthy. Then who and what are the reports referring to? Before 1990 the Forbes 400 had a combined worth of $221 billion combined. By June 2006 they were worth 1.3 trillion. The median household income has held at about $ 44,000. What this means is if the lower to middle class incomes are stagnate while inflation is rising, the healthy economy exists for the rich. There are many ways to make the national economy appear healthy than it is for the average working class family. Adjusted for inflation the federal minimum wage has fallen 42% in June 2006 since its peak. It is said that 80% of American spend more on health care than entertainment. Partly this is due to the high cost of prescription drugs. The second part is that the number of prescriptions written is higher than ever. The U.S. economy is partly built on the pharmaceutical and food conglomerates. Think about it you have to eat so there is always a market for what the food industry produces. Than again after you indulge in the processed faux food you wind up in the arms of the pharmaceutical giants. In other words the big players on the top rungs are where we find the health economy. The U.S. economy is supported by the working class. From taxes to buying habits the happy reports about the U.S. economy are fueled by the feeding of the corporate giants. The top is getting heavy and the bottom half is loosing its footing. If the U.S. economy sinks the middle class, it will echo thought the whole economy. The opportunities for wealth still exist in this economy. The problem is that the industrial giants are in the position of expanding their reach at the cost of the general population. Basically, what the prevailing thought is that the rich spend and keep the money in circulation. Their buying power and consumer spending feed the economy. The question is whose economy. Sure Tiffany is enjoying good sales growth, but what about the mom and pop stores selling lower end merchandise. When doing an overview of the economy you have to look at the landscape. When listening to the reports on the economy you have to ask where Middle America is. Then you can get an idea if the ship will stay afloat, and I think the answer will not surprise you. Middle America is not being buffered by the high rollers. If anything it is being sunk by the people who claim to be holding the economy together.

Branding is a unique thing that can create business longevity for you. I am not saying that that is going to happen initially, those that have bad business practices, after a year or two, or even six months, they will soon become like that, they will wonder where their next sale is going to be. It is probably harder to turn it around than if you had initially done that, but things could turn around through the same branding practices. They find you there under that keyword name. We can go into any industry we want and get to the top of that industry because we find the cream of the crop in that industry and pay them whatever they want so that we can learn from them. It usually takes us six months in that industry to do that, and that is after paying people for their time to tell us the things that they know. Sometimes you pay for courses and the courses were garbage, but we never complained about it, we just said that is a person that we do not need to learn from. We just keep going forward until we found the cream of the crop. The money that we spent on that is pennies compared to what we learned from the cream of the crop and continued to make large sums of money in that industry. That is what you need to do, find the cream of the crop. When you find the cream of the crop, pay that person whatever they want and learn everything you can from that person. Do not suck them dry overnight, then they might not teach you anything else. Let them teach you, let them do it over time and just learn everything you can from them. Most likely the information that they teach you, you will have to read, listen to, watch, whatever method they use to teach you, over and over again to get it correctly.

In fact, I suspect he subscribed to these various lists one way or another and just didn’t realize it at the time. Nevertheless, he makes a good point and it’s always good to begin the process by understanding the underlying motivations. There are many reasons to develop an opt-in email list but this article will focus on just three. And let me say before we begin that if you have a website that gets a lot of traffic and you’re NOT accumulating email addresses, you’re making a big mistake. You’re throwing real money right down the drain and I hope the following paragraphs will help explain why. The internet is a fascinating place. People can visit your site from any corner of the globe and in most cases, you may never know they were there. Yes, there are traffic monitors and analytics platforms that can give you a lot of information about your websites visitors but the fact remains that you never SAW the visitor, you never shook hands, you never said hello.
